Bunion Procedures

There are various surgical procedures to correct a bunion deformity which depends upon the degree of deformity and which part of the toe/foot the deformity lies. Hallux Valgus is one of the most common deformities within the forefoot. This means the first metatarsal begins to shift away from the lesser toes and the big toe itself start to shift onto the lesser toes which causes pain and deformities. This deformity can also cause the lesser toes to change and cause pain.

Hallux Limitus is another form of a bunion deformity in which your big toe is unable to fully bend but is able to still move. Hallux Rigidus is the same condition but your big toe joint is not able to move any. Both of these conditions can create a bump that may imitate Hallux Valgus clinically but looks very different on x-ray. You may also notice spurs on the big toe joint caused by either deformity.

Hammertoe Procedures

A Hammer Toe is a deformity that may occur on your second, third, or fourth toe in which the middle joint of your toe is contracted and the tip of your toe then points to the ground. This can be caused by a number of reasons but the most common is due to a bunion deformity. Depending on the severity of your deformity would determine the treatment plan.

A Heloma Molle is a type of soft corn and in some cases may turn into an ulcer that forms in between your toes. It is most commonly caused by the fourth or fifth digit knuckles rubbing against the toe next to them. These can occur on different digits although it is uncommon. Surgery is not always indicated but is the only way to remove a Heloma Molle.

Ankle Procedures

Osteoarthritis of the ankle or any joint occurs when the cartilage in between your bones start to wear down or goes away completely. In the ankle in particular it can be very painful due to your full body weight applying force onto the joint. Usually you will experience difficulty walking, swelling, pain, or discomfort. The most common procedure we do for this would be an ankle scope to clear out the debris, in severe cases it may be necessary for an ankle fusion.
